How Johnny and Martha Met: Johnny and Martha’s story began in the most unexpected and innocent way—back when they were just 13 years old. They met in middle school at a Boy Scouts meeting, where Martha had tagged along with Peter. What started as a simple introduction quickly turned into a friendship that felt easy and natural. They laughed often, challenged each other constantly, and somewhere along the way, Johnny began to notice something more. He swears it might’ve been the moment he realized she could beat just about anyone at arm wrestling—except him. From then on, she had his attention in a way no one else did.
Not long after, their friendship deepened during a family campout in Moab. Surrounded by red rock landscapes and star-filled skies, they shared something new—both admitting they liked each other. It was young and sweet and a little uncertain, but it was real. At the very next Boy Scouts meeting, Johnny nervously asked Martha to help him find his scout book. What seemed like a simple favor turned into a moment he’d been building up to—he asked her to be his girlfriend. And just like that, their first chapter began.
Their middle school “relationship” lasted only three months, and while Martha may not even remember officially ending things, what they shared never really disappeared. Life carried them forward, as it does—through high school, where they remained friends, and eventually into college, where they drifted apart. Years passed quietly, each of them growing into who they were meant to become, their story paused but not finished.
Then, on Martha’s 23rd birthday, Johnny reached out. It had been years, but something in him told him to try. Martha didn’t respond right away, and in that small window of time, Johnny set off on a journey of his own—the Colorado Trail. Just as he began, Martha finally replied. For a few days, they talked again, reconnecting like no time had passed at all. And then, as suddenly as it started, the signal disappeared. For a whole month, they were out of touch again—but this time, it felt different. There was something waiting on the other side.
When Johnny returned, they picked up right where they left off—only now, everything felt deeper. What once was young and uncertain had grown into something intentional and steady. They began going on dates, rediscovering each other not as kids, but as two people who had unknowingly been weaving their way back together all along.
Some stories don’t follow a straight path. Sometimes they pause, take detours, or even go quiet for a while. But Johnny and Martha’s story is proof that what’s meant to be will find its way back—stronger, fuller, and exactly when it’s supposed to. And from that point on, the rest was history.
